My name is Becci and I'm the Founder & Director of TiG™. We are a gel nail polish brand for professionals with the aim to make sustainable change within the beauty industry.

 

I created This is Gel™ in 2020 after years of reactions after getting my nails done - swelling, redness, and painful rashes. After a lot (a lot a lot) of research, it turned out I was allergic to an ingredient commonly found in the gel polishes called HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), particularly in the major global gel polish brands found in every salon. And I wasn't the only one, I soon discovered there were Facebook groups with 20,000+ members specifically as a result of these brands using high levels of HEMA. So, what did I do? I got certified as a nail tech and went on a mission to find a better brand, ones without HEMA and one that was kind to the environment. But man, was it tough. There just weren't any options in the UK that fit the bill. So, fuelled by big dreams and too many cabernet sauvignons one night, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Fast forward two years, a ton of trial and error (more error than trial), and voila, This is Gel™ was born.

Sure, we're not claiming to have cracked the sustainability code just yet, but it's a path we're walking with dedication. Making better choices, reducing our environmental impact – it's in our DNA, pushing us to constantly learn and grow.

​Pigmentation, pigmentation, pigmentation. It's incredibly important to us that our gels speak for themselves, so we are extremely fussy about the colours in our range. We work with top suppliers and pay higher costs to source the best manufacturers and suppliers out there based in the UK. There's a reason our shade 'Control' is a fan favourite – a bold pillarbox red known for its one-coat wonder.
